Ayurveda is an ancient system of holistic healing that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. Translated as “the science of life”, Ayurveda teaches us how to live in harmony with nature, the seasons, and our unique constitution.
Rather than treating symptoms alone, Ayurveda looks at the whole person, body, mind, emotions, lifestyle and environment, supporting long-term wellbeing through personalised care.
At Counting Stars Yoga, Ayurveda is offered as a gentle, practical and empowering way to understand yourself more deeply and create sustainable balance in your everyday life.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is based on the understanding that we are all made up of the five elements, earth, water, fire, air and ether, expressed through three doshas:
- Vata (air + ether): movement, creativity, the nervous system
- Pitta (fire + water): digestion, metabolism, focus, transformation
- Kapha (earth + water): stability, strength, nourishment, grounding
Each person has a unique doshic makeup. When we live in alignment with it, we feel vibrant, calm and well. When we move out of balance, symptoms can arise physically, emotionally or mentally.
Ayurveda gently guides us back into balance through:
- Food and digestion
- Daily rhythms and routines
- Sleep and rest
- Nervous system support
- Seasonal living
- Herbal and lifestyle guidance
- Mind–body practices
